A late-season winter storm is forecast to bring significant snowfall and strong winds to parts of Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Washington, and Oregon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), winter storm warnings and advisories are in effect from Sunday into Monday, with snowfall totals ranging from 1 to 16 inches depending on the region and elevation.
The Wind River Mountains East in Wyoming are expected to see the heaviest snowfall, with accumulations of 8 to 16 inches and wind gusts up to 50 mph, creating near-whiteout conditions.

Why It's Important?

The storm is expected to cause hazardous travel conditions, particularly in mountainous areas and along major highways. Blowing snow and wind gusts of 40-50 mph could lead to near-zero visibility and snow-covered roads, increasing the risk of accidents. Key trouble spots include the South Pass in Wyoming, Highway 14 through the Bighorn Mountains, and various mountain passes in Montana, Washington, and Oregon. The storm may also disrupt Monday commutes and outdoor activities, especially in Wyoming and Montana, where the heaviest snowfall is expected. Residents in affected areas should prepare for potential power outages and difficult travel conditions.
